1878 (5 Aug) soldier’s cover from Cyprus to England. Addressed to Hertfordshire and headed “From No. 833 Corporal J. Bolton, 7/2 R.A. Cyprus”, countersigned. Franked at the concessionary rate with a 1d red (Plate 198), cancelled by “942” numeral. Arrival datestamp on reverse.
A historically important military mail item, representing the first recorded cover from the British Administration in Cyprus and the only recorded soldier’s cover bearing British stamps from the island.
