1852, William III, 10-centimes greyish black, single and a horizontal pair in mixed franking with 1-sgr. carmine-rose single and a horizontal strip of three — all with good to wide margins (except single 1 sgr. at right), franked in a horizontal row and tied by black nine bars of Luxemburg on entire double-rate letter with ”LUXEMBURG 29 MAI 53” double circle datestamp and boxed P.D., red cachet d’entrée and blue sender’s cachet sent to Paris. Franked at the 80c rate for a double rate letter to France. The 1 sgr. stamp equals 12½ c. Of the very few recorded combination frankings of the first issue of which one to Switzerland is a front only and the other one to Paris (also ex Burrus) has its 10c stamp torn, the cover offered here which is unique is by far the most attractive. Described by Willy Balasse in the Burrus sale as “piece de grand amateur”. In our opinion the greatest Luxembourg cover in existence. Certificate Eichele (2017) and Calves and Jacquart (2017).
