1859 Dardenne 1d dull vermilion pair used on internal cover from Port Louis to the 5th Fusiliers at Mahébourg, cancelled light black targets, GPO MAURITIUS despatch of FE 14 1860 on flap, framed Mahébourg arrival 18 FE 1860 on face, clear to enormous margins. A most attractive use. The Dardenne 1 penny is a very rare stamp on cover.
We only record three covers exclusively franked by a 1d Dardenne pair, two are rare inland covers and the Kanai printed matter franking which we sold in 1993 for 28.000 CHF (estimated at 50.000 USD in the D.F pricing guide). The cover for sale here is by far the finest of all three.
