1859 2 Gr. Plate I, ultramarine (azzurro oltremare), applied sideways, with good to large margins and showing sheet margin at right. On undated cover to Girgenti, cancelled by oval-framed CALTANISSETTA despatch handstamp at upper left. The cover is particularly attractive, featuring a decorative herringbone-pattern paper, only 2-3 such covers known for Sicily.
A rare shade on cover and a most appealing postal history item, enhanced by the unusual sideways application and striking appearance.
