1859 1/2 Gr. plate I, orange (arancia), two singles, and 1 Gr. Plate II greyish olive-green (verde oliva grigiastro), three singles, on cover to Trapani; one 1/2 Gr. clearly showing the retouch at upper right of the portrait (Position 19). The left ½ Gr. with touched margins, the second ½ Gr. with four margins, the three 1 Gr. values with good to close margins. Cancelled by Naples printed-frame obliterators with the frames inverted, the strikes additionally served to partially obscure the royal portrait. The unusual nature of the cancellations has been regarded as a possible expression of anti-Bourbon sentiment during the closing years of Bourbon rule, giving the cover considerable historical and political interest. An attractive and scarce multiple-franking cover, and a notable example of potential postal political protest.
