1840 1d Grey-Black, Plate 6 (JB–JE). Horizontal strip of four on cover — exceptional quality.
An outstanding and highly desirable usage, the horizontal strip of four is affixed to a cover from Bedford dated 1 February 1841, addressed to Booth’s Distillery, London. Each stamp is superbly cancelled by crisp red Maltese Crosses, and all examples display large to enormous margins, greatly enhancing the visual impact of this impressive multiple.
The cover is in extremely fine condition and represents a rare survival of a large multiple on cover, combining freshness, clarity, and strong exhibition appeal.
