1840 1d Black Plate 5 (SI). A fine example with four margins on cover from Haddington to Edinburgh, neatly tied by a crisp brown Maltese Cross. On reverse, a matching brown HADDINGTON AU 20 1840 despatch datestamp. The use of brown ink at Haddington is noted (Encyclopaedia, p.429) for the period July–December 1840, adding interest to this early usage. A very attractive and scarce cover. Signed Raybaudi.
