1840 1d Black Plate 1a (EE). A fresh example with moderate plate wear, four margins, and tied by a light red Maltese Cross of Edinburgh to an outer lettersheet dated internally “18/19 May 1840”. Sent locally to York Place, Edinburgh, Scotland. On reverse, a light MAY 18 1840 Edinburgh datestamp crosses the flap. An attractive early May date cover.
