A very fresh and attractive horizontal pair with four margins, tied by red Maltese Cross cancellations to a folded banking letter from Glasgow to Stirling. Clear GLASGOW MAY 13 1840 despatch datestamp on reverse. A fine and scarce double-rate cover, used just eight days after the introduction of the Penny Black.
