Samarang. 10 cent 1868 and 50 cent 1870 in mixed franking on complete folded letter, perfectly tied by well-placed Samarang half-round franco postmarks 6.8 1870 with an additional strike on the cover and interesting written directives “per steamer via Batavia” and “Franco via Marseille”. Complete folded letter sheet without content; on back is Amsterdam arrival 2.10 1870. A very minor fault at the bottom the 10 cent 1868, but both stamps with good colour and excellent perforation. One of three mixed frankings originating from Samarang.
ONE OF THE FINEST OF THE RARE MIXED FRANKING LETTERS OF WHICH A LITTLE MORE THAN 25 HAVE BEEN RECORDED. AN EXHIBITION ITEM FOR THE ADVANCED COLLECTOR AND AN OBJECT OF SPLENDID VISUAL APPEAL.
60 cent rate for a letter to the Netherlands via Marseille (Jan. 1870-May 1876). This letter derives from the extensive commercial correspondence of the merchant and shipping agent Dorrepaal & Co. in Samarang.
