Muntok. 1868, 10 cent red pos. 16 with a wonderful central and bold strike of the Muntok round franco postmark 12.5 18??. A superb cancel on an immaculate stamp. Voerman 175. Rare and attractive.
The Muntok office on Banka Island off the east coast of Sumatra appears to have used both the half-round franco postmark and this round franco postmark at the same time (like Buitenzorg). The Muntok round franco cancel was in an unusual local design with the word “franco” written in a straight line (and not curving) and a decorative rosette below "franco" , a tiny piece of which can be discerned on this stamp.
