Koedoes. 1870, 10 cent brown on Chinese letter from Koedoes to Samarang. Stamp with excellent perforation tied by rare Koedoes round franco postmark 22.5 1873, with an additional strike on the cover. Samarang receiver 23.5 1873 on back. Complete folded letter with fragile paper and some internal splitting; some toning to letter and stamp. With certificate Vleeming, 2018.
A GREAT RARITY OF THE ROUND FRANCO CANCELLATIONS. THREE SINGLE STAMPS ARE KNOWN AND THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED LETTER. WITH EXCELLENT POSTMARK QUALITY USED ONE WEEK AFTER KOEDOES’ ESTABLISHMENT AS A POST OFFICE.
The small office of Koedoes was established as a sub-post office in 1864. It acquired status as a regular post office May 15th 1873.
