Ambarawa. 1870, 10 cent brown on fresh envelope sent to Soerabaija; stamp lightly tied to envelope by the Ambarawa half-round franco cancel 22.10 1873 with an additional strike on the front and “franco” written below stamp; the postmark appears to lack the “73” in the year. Letter sent to pharmacist A. Stendemann in Soerabaija and on back is a clear red Soerabaija 25.10 1873 arrival. Very fine and rare. The date 22.10 1873 is the latest known date for this postmark, and an exceptionally late use of the half-round franco cancel.
