Padang. 1868, 10 cent red on newspaper wrapper sent from Padang to Amsterdam. Stamp in perfect condition, tied to wrapper by the Padang half-round franco cancel 31.3 1870 with an additional strike on the front. On the back is Amsterdam arrival 15.5 1870 and manuscript “10” confirming the correct 10 cent franking to the Netherlands. Printed endorsements on the wrapper “Via Marseille” and “Franco”. Very fresh and attractive.

This address wrapper would have enclosed an 1870 price circular sent to the merchants Fraissinet & van Baak in Keizersgracht in Amsterdam. Newspapers from 1870 report the incoming cargo lists of Fraissinet & van Baak, comprising mostly coffee, sugar, pepper, buffalo hides, and cocoa. The rate for printed matter via Marseille was 10 cent 1 Jan. 1863-1 May 1876.
