Probolingo. 1864, 10 cent red on folded letter from Probolingo to Soerabaya. Stamp with full to wide margins, attractively tied by very clear strike of the half-round franco cancel Probolingo 27.9 1868 with an additional strike on the cover. A complete folded letter sheet without content sent to the Soerabaya merchant Brothers Gimberg & Co.; stamp placed top left with manuscript “Franco” underneath. An attractive and tidy letter with a few folds and minimal paper splitting.
A TOP RARITY OF THE HALF-ROUND FRANCO POSTMARKS, AND ACCORDING TO OUR RECORDS, THE ONLY KNOWN LETTER WITH THE PROBOLINGO POSTMARK ON THE FIRST ISSUE.
