1864, 10 cent red on letter sent from Soerakarta to Samarang. Stamp with excellent colour and ample margins on all sides, tied to Chinese cover by black framed FRANCO struck diagonally with red circular Soerakarta 16.6 1864 beside. Stamp placed top left with manuscript “Franco” noted below. A traditional Chinese folded letter with name or company chops applied to front and the full content preserved; with well-struck postmarks and some paper damage to the right-hand side of the letter. An early complete letter from the first year of postage stamp usage.
