1864, 10 cent red on complete folded letter sent from sub-post office Rangkasbetong via Serang to Batavia, datelined in Tjilanakakan 13.1 1865 and black circular Serang 13.1 1865. Stamp with full margins all around and a defect to the left side, tied to cover by centrally struck black framed FRANCO. Sent from Rangkasbetong sub-post office in Central Java with rare red RANGKASBETONG line mark (39 mm) on back alongside Batavia arrival 16.1. An extremely rare letter and probably unique.
Rangkasbetong, 30 km south of Serang, operated as a sub-post office from 1864 to 1908 when it became a main post office.
