1864, 10 cent red on letter sent to the Assistant Resident of Madura, J.C.G.S. Kraaijennoord. Superb stamp with good colour and full to wide margins on all sides (cut somewhat unevenly), tied to fresh cover by centrally struck and very crisp black framed FRANCO with red circular Pamakassan arrival 22.5 1865 on the back. Complete folded letter without content. A superb letter in a perfect state of preservation sent to Madura Island, east of Java.
An important letter sent to Pamakassan, the administrative centre of the Madura Residency during the colonial era and an important military and economic territory of the Dutch East Indies. Mr. Kraaijennoord was previously Secretary of the city of Bezoeki and in April 1865 he assumed the post as Assistant Resident of Madura, i.e. an administrative official in the Interior Administration of the Dutch East Indies.
