1864, 10 cent red on letter from Makassar 17.5 1865 to Batavia. Stamp with fresh colour and full to wide margins on all sides, tied to cover by centrally struck black framed FRANCO with red circular Magelang datestamp on the cover. Complete folded small-size letter with full content. Batavia arrival 25.5 1865 on back. A superb letter sent from Makassar, the important trading centre on the south part of Sulawesi Island; very fine and attractive letter with a few minor tears at top.
EXTREMELY RARE: ACCORDING TO TAY THE ONLY KNOWN USAGE OF FRAMED FRANCO FROM MAKASSAR ON THE FIRST ISSUE.
