Stamp with full margins cut close in a few places and a little stained, tied to cover by centrally struck black framed FRANCO alongside red circular Magelang datestamp. Complete folded Chinese envelope with full content preserved. Samarang arrival 15.8 1865 on back.
VERY RARE, ONE OF ONLY THREE LETTERS KNOWN WITH THE MAGELANG FRANCO HANDSTAMP AND RED DATEMARK.
A very interesting commercial mail between member of Chinese communities, with full Chinese text inside and four chops applied across the sheet; probably these are name chops of the company or of an individual sending the letter. Most of these Chinese native letters are empty sheets without contents; it is most unusual to find the full correspondence preserved.
