1823, Letter from Samarang 2 Apr. 1823 to Batavia, with absolutely superb strike of the “JAVA POST OFFICE/SA-/MARANG/DOL-/LORS/STY-/VERS" double-circle handstamp (WdB 14) and accompanying POST PAID handstamp (WdB 30). Letter sent to the Batavia merchant van Rijck, Prediger & Co. with internal docketing noting receipt 7 Apr. 1823. Charge of 18 stuivers prepaid by sender noted on front, for first weight letter 1821-1826.
An exceptional letter with one of the sharpest strikes of the large Samarang British postmark we have seen. With certificate NVPH (1997).
