1818 "Post Comptoir Surabaya" handstamp (WdB 38; known in use Jan. 1817-June 1819) with accompanying FRANCO (WdB 39) both in red, on complete letter to Banjoewangie, datelined 20 July 1818, with full content preserved. A superb strike of the first Netherlands Indies postmark that continued the design of the preceding British markings but with a value in guldens and stuivers. A payment of 4 stuivers is indicated in the postmark for the distance Sourabaya-Banjoewangie. Superb in every respect and one of the finest letters existing with the first NEI postmark. With certificate van der Vlist (2000).
