Rare Indian Registration Handstamp Used in Cyprus
1917 Registered cover franked with a vertical strip of three 1 piastre King George V stamps, posted from Nicosia and backstamped Larnaca, 10 August 1917. The cover bears the exceptionally rare five-line Indian registration handstamp, brought to Cyprus by the Indian Regiment during the British occupation in 1878 and subsequently retained for postal use. Only three examples of this distinctive registration marking are recorded, making this one of the rarest items of Cypriot registration postal history.
