The Cypriot Bishops’ Conflict of 1909

Note: The Cypriot Bishops’ Conflict (1900–1909), also known as the Archiepiscopal Question, was a prolonged dispute over the election of the Archbishop of Cyprus after Archbishop Sophronios III died. Rival bishops Kyrillos of Kition and Kyrillos of Kyrenia each claimed the position, dividing Cypriot society and involving the Patriarchates of Constantinople, Alexandria, and Jerusalem. The conflict ended in 1909 with the election of Kyrillos II as Archbishop, followed by reconciliation in 1910.
