Early sepia photograph depicting the 9th Bombay Infantry Regiment camp at Larnaca, Cyprus, with printed legend below, "9th Bombay Inf. Regt. Camp Cyprus – Rosati". An important contemporary record of the Indian Expeditionary Force following the British occupation of Cyprus in 1878, providing rare documentary evidence of the establishment of the British Administration on the island. A historically significant and highly desirable item.
Note: The Indian Expeditionary Force arrived in Cyprus in July 1878 following the Cyprus Convention, which placed the island under British administration. Composed largely of British Indian Army troops, the force landed at Larnaca, established military camps, and secured British control. Disease and harsh conditions led to most Indian troops returning later that year.
