1824 French Consular Letter from Larnaca, Cyprus
Folded entire letter written in French by the French Consul, Méchain, dated "Larnaca, 27 April 1824," concerning public health conditions in Cyprus and Syria. Handstamped inside with a superb black CONSULAT DE FRANCE LARNACA cachet and originally entrusted to the captain of the brig Le St. Joseph (Couture) for carriage to Marseille. Sealed on the reverse with an excellent strike of the same consular cachet and disinfected with two horizontal slits. A rare and highly desirable French consular postal history showpiece.
