1550 MÜNSTER, Sebastian (1488–1552). Descriptio Cypri. Original uncoloured woodcut map of Cyprus from the Latin edition of Cosmographia Universalis, Basel, c. 1550 (first published 1544). The map depicts the island with its principal towns, including Nicosia, Famagusta, and Kyrenia, stylized mountain ranges, and surrounding seas. A decorative sailing ship and with many oars. Reverse shows the distinctive Cypriot fallow deer—referencing the island's celebrated fauna—enhance the composition. Influenced by Matteo Pagano's 1538 woodcut of Cyprus, this map is one of the earliest and most influential printed representations of the island. Printed by Heinrich Petri, with woodcuts attributed to Hans Rudolf Manuel Deutsch and the Basel workshop. Accompanied by letterpress text on the same page. Size: 200mm × 315mm. Condition: Fine crisp impression with clean margins.
