Gupta Empire, Chandragupta II, c. 380-413, AV dinar, 7.73 g. (20 mm). Obverse: Horseman type: king without a bow riding horse right, without halo and carrying no bow, circular Brahmi legend around. Reverse: Lakshmi with halo, seated left on wicker stool, traces of backrest in the form of a dotted line upward along the legend holding long diadem and prominent, long-stemmed lotus, legend at right, ajitavikrama, tamgha left, dotted border around. Kumar, TOTGE 2024, Class II, variety A, 3. Raven, CG2/group 1. An early and very rare type that still retains part of a backrest for the goddess.
VF+, with an attractive obverse, struck slightly off-centre with some loss to horse's head, some lustre shows through.
