Fountain pen, no. 1711/9800. Cap and barrel in precious black resin, its deep colour evoking the dark forests that serve as the primary setting for the Brothers Grimm's tales. The undulating pattern on the cap and barrel draws inspiration simultaneously from Rapunzel's hair and from roots — a metaphor for the Brothers Grimm's philological work, which they conceived as a search into the "roots" of language.
The overall form of the pen evokes an ancient walking staff. Platinum-coated clip in the shape of a gnarled piece of wood, designed to pivot and reveal profile portraits of the two brothers.
