The animal motif has held a distinctive place in Western jewellery since the nineteenth century, fuelled by a fascination with natural history and exoticism. The monkey motif, rarer than birds or insects, reflects a singular jewellery whimsy, here enhanced by the use of rose-cut diamonds and coloured stones.
