Pair of silver Art Deco cufflinks, circa 1935, France. Signed, with Jean Després master mark. Gross weight: 16.79 g.
French silversmith, jeweller and sculptor (1889–1980), Jean Després is one of the most singular figures in Art Deco jewellery. Trained in an aviation workshop during the First World War, he developed a resolutely industrial and mechanical aesthetic — in sharp contrast to the floral refinement of his contemporaries — which today places his work among the most sought-after in major museum collections.
