Peintre suisse originaire de Bossonnens (canton de Fribourg), Charles Cottet fut lauréat de la bourse fédérale des beaux-arts à trois reprises (1956, 1960 et 1964) et enseigna à l'École d'arts appliqués de Vevey de 1964 jusqu'à sa mort. Son œuvre, marquée par une évolution vers l'abstraction, se distingue par la force du trait et une sensibilité coloriste affirmée.

A Swiss painter from Bossonnens in the canton of Fribourg, Charles Cottet was awarded the Swiss Federal Fine Arts Grant on three occasions (1956, 1960 and 1964) and taught at the École d'arts appliqués de Vevey from 1964 until his death. His work, marked by a progressive turn towards abstraction, is distinguished by the confidence of his line and an assured sense of colour.
