Gupta Empire, Samudragupta, c. 335-375, AV dinar, 7.45 g. (22 mm). Obverse: ‘javelin’ type; king standing left, sacrificing at altar, holding javelin, Garuda standard at left, Brahmi legend around and Samudra below left arm. Reverse: Lakshmi enthroned facing, resting feet at lotus, holding diadem and cornucopia, Brahmi legend at right, dotted border around. VF-EF, struck from a worn die, some lustre shows through.This type was likely one of the first Gupta coin produced, and clearly modelled on the Kushan coins that went before it.Ex Chand Collection 1.09.13
