Obverse: Rajadanda type, nimbate king with large earring and pearled diadem wearing tunic with long tails, turned to left, holding a Rajadanda. Reverse: goddess with halo enthroned, left hand holding cornucopia and diadem in right hand. Reverse legend srivikkramah. Kumar, TOTGE 2024, Rajadanda Variety B.
An extremely rare coin of Chandragupta I, showing the king holding the Rajadanda staff as a symbol of royal authority. Kumar notes 13 specimens known to exist (TOTGE, 2024, p. 220), and this coin is similar to coin 32 illustrated on p. 221. Despite the obvious damage, this coin is one of the rarest Gupta coins of the Chand Silk Road collection.
Good-VG, well-struck and with some good detail on both sides; some flattening to lower peripheral areas on both sides, test cut visible from both sides, as is a major flan defect through the lower right part of obverse with an equivalent on the reverse that also displays some raised metal. Minor rim polishing at 11 o'clock position.
