The collection comes from André Valéry, Haiti’s pioneering Olympic sprinter (1924 Paris, 1928 Amsterdam incl. 4×100m relay, 1932 Los Angeles) who competed alongside Jesse Owens and was nicknamed “Governor of the Cinders” for his speed. Later he served as Minister of Commerce (1957), Minister of Finance (1958–1959), and Minister of Agriculture (1960), directly overseeing monetary policy during a key post-occupation period. These banknotes (mainly 1960s series) circulated under his tenure, featuring agricultural themes and national symbols. Rarely offered on the market.
VF-AUC. banknotes in strong, vibrant colours; some have folds, light soiling; two 25 gourdes notes have marks from stapling or paper clips.
