1691, William and Mary, 5 Guineas AV 41 g. Obverse: GVLIELMVS. ET. MARIA. DEI. GRATIA, conjoined laureate busts of William and Mary, elephant and castle below William’s bust. Reverse: abbreviated Latin legend REX. ET. REGINA. 16 – 91 MAG. BR. FR. ET. HIB. crowned quartered shield of arms with shell frame, with a shield of the Lion of Nassau at centre, 8 strings to Irish harp, date either side of top crown. Edge inscribed in raised letters DECVS ET TVTAMEN ANNO REGNI TERTIO. Sp. 3423.
VF This coin saw some circulation, but overall detail remains strong, with elements such as the harp strings and the elephant standing out clearly; with a few minor edge nicks and a couple dark deposits on reverse.
