An extensive collection of German emergency currency, c. 1917-1924 (Deutsches Reich Notgeld, Ersatzgeld, Gutschein, Aushilfsschein, Reutergeld).
Approximately 1060 notes in two old albums, featuring countless German cities and areas, dating from the outbreak of World War I when coins were hoarded and metal diverted for wartime uses; this large group gives a good look into the development of hyperinflation in Germany. Housed in contemporary Notgeld albums, indicating that this emergency currency was meant to be collected and put aside instead of redeemed. An amazing group from a fun and challenging collecting area, showing the diversity of designs and executions of such currency, from crude and basic to refined printings. Colourful and very fresh material overall, very few with light defects; single items throughout with minimal duplication, including 1921 booklets with multiple notes from Jena.
